Scope of Eligibility
Open to applicants who meet requirements below.
Description
Under direction of a Head Grounds Worker or other supervisory official in a state institution or department, does tasks involved in the maintenance of grounds; does other related duties as required.
Specific to Position
The appointee will perform a variety of grounds worker duties, which include preparing seedbeds at the nursery; planting, transplanting, and caring for seedlings and trees; ensuring that non-cultivated areas are properly maintained; operating power equipment including forestry equipment, trucks, and snowplows. This position is designated as a DEP “Weather Essential Employee” and selected candidate may need to report even during State closures.
•Intermittent employees must work 11 out of the 12 months in a Fiscal Year.
•Intermittent employees are paid at an hourly rate, not salary.
•Benefit Time earned is as follows: 174 Hours Worked = 1 Sick Day/1 Vacation Day/4 Hours of Administrative Leave.
•Intermittent employees do not get Dental insurance.
•Intermittent employees are not eligible for state pension membership, but are eligible for Deferred Compensation.
•Health benefits coverage will be effective the first day of the first coverage period that includes January 1 of the given year, provided the Intermittent employee had a minimum of 750 regular pay status hours in the prior fiscal year (July-June).
Requirements
EXPERIENCE
One (1) year of experience in the performance of semiskilled grounds keeping work.
License
Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
Appointees may be required to obtain a NJ Certified Pesticide Applicator's or Operator's Permit in the required categories.
